Winners of the HI-MACS Design Competition
October 14, 2011

The winners of the 2011 HI-MACS design competition, organised by LG Hausys, were announced at a ceremony during the 100% Design show in London at the end of last month. The student prize went to Mario Fuentes and his Naked Lamp, a single form street lamp designed to bring both colour and light to town or city streets. And Daniel Abendroth won the professional prize for his E-Moke - a static bike-like object for public places, where people can sit, relax and gently pedal to re-charge mobile phone, iPods and other mobile devices.

The theme for this year's competition was Urban Furniture - a subject that provided both young talents and old hands with plenty of scope for daring ideas and innovative concepts. Everything that makes urban spaces more beautiful, more fascinating and more interesting was allowed.
Winner of the professional category - Daniel Abendroth's E-Moke
The competition was conceived to allow entrants to exploit the versatility of HI-MACS, using its durability, formability and ease of visibly seamless joining to create any three-dimensional shape desired.
The eight finalists in the two categories - professional and student - were all at the exhibition, where their designs, which had been fabricated in real size by Global Vacuum Presses, were all on show.
