Let there be light

It may not quite have been divine inspiration, but after just a couple of minutes inside Salisbury Cathedral, artist and lighting designer Bruce Munro knew exactly how he wanted his latest instillation to look.

There are plenty of opportunities to customise your Christmas this year with countless interactive design workshops taking place, including the chance to try your hand at glassblowing and make your own bauble! Starting to panic about fitting in time for Christmas shopping and more importantly ensuring the gifts you give show you as the design conscious lover you are? It seems Etoile Home has all the answers. Canadian-born but UK based Shani Beadle began as a fashion and interiors photographer but in 2006 had a change of direction and set up fabric design company Etoile, which uses it's 1950s inspired prints for a whole range of interior products, including rugs and upholstery fabric.

I had the pleasure of popping into Claridge's yesterday for the London launch of The Tron Armchair, the latest collaborative project between Cappellini and Walt Disney Signature. An award to be treasured

Last Tuesday evening was a special date in the diaries of many interior designers, product designers and architects: late into the night, the Grosvenor House hotel in London's Park Lane hosted the FX magazine's International Interior Design Awards. Everyone seemed to have a great night - and a lucky few are now the proud owners of their very own FX Award.
Obviously, the kudos of winning is far more valuable than the trophy itself, but it's still important to give the winners something they can take away and cherish - perhaps even pick up every now and then as they re-enact their moment of glory.
The FX Awards trophy, a tablet of Corian thermoformed to resemble the natural undulations of a glossy magazine, made its debut 10 years ago. Since then it has always been rendered in grey and white, but this year we decided to do something a bit different.
