As the Christmas shoppers turn out in their masses, the Brompton Design District in southwest London is an unmissable stop on the trail, with stunning window displays, unique present options and late night openings for many stores this Saturday 4th December, the district's Christmas family day. In search of some Christmas spirit, idfx explore the best stores and showrooms in this increasingly influential design hub...
Talkback Thames TV call out to interior designers, architects and specifiers
November 24, 2010
As a result of my recent, rather relentless blogging on Mid-Century furniture, idfx has been asked to help source participants for a brand new primetime series enabling those with interesting vintage furniture pieces to pitch their item/s to four UK dealers with the intention to sell. Could be perfect for an interior designer, architect or specifier who has a particular passion for vintage and comes across such pieces on a day to day basis!

Christmas is definitely coming and this weekend saw the residents of Goslar, a charming world heritage site at the foot of Germany's Harz mountains, put the finishing touches to their Christmas market in the town square. Against this festive backdrop, a group of almost 30 interior design professionals spent the weekend as the guests of German bathroom products manufacturer Alape and idfx was very privileged to have a seat at the table.
Lalique glass decanter shatters auction records
November 22, 2010

Last week a one-of-a-kind decanter, created exclusively by world-renowned glass designers and makers Lalique in partnership with charity:water and Macallan whisky, was auctioned at Sotheby's New York for a staggering $460,000, of which all proceeds will be donated to charity:water. The piece was created by the lost wax casting method, a technique that has been long-abandoned by many manufacturers but revived for this collaborative project. The auction price broke the world record for a project of this type.
The angel is in the detail

Those who choose a career in design usually do so for love rather than money, and lighting designers are often particularly passionate about their craft. Take Lucy Martin of lighting design company John Cullen for example, whose recent project at Merton College, Oxford shows an attention to detail that could only have come from a genuine love of working with light.
Vintage furniture at vintage prices this Sunday
November 18, 2010
This Sunday sees the launch of a brand new vintage interiors fair here in London, The Vintage Furniture Flea. It has been set up by Judy Berger, the founder of The Affordable Vintage Fair, which concentrates on fashion from the 20s to the 80s. Judy's same amazing eye for dealers with authentic beautiful pieces, combined with her strict protocol of realistic prices, has been applied to the world to of vintage interior pieces and makes this one not to miss.
Mid-Century Madness Part 2
November 16, 2010
As promised, I am reporting back from my trip to the Mid.Century Modern show at Dulwich College over the weekend. It certainly didn't disappoint - the place was absolutely chock full of visitors as well as beautiful vintage pieces, great for clients who are hoping for a scheme that incorporates furniture or decorative pieces from the 40s through to the 70s. Here are some of my favourite finds and their dealers.

Hannah Garrigan of Linthorpe in Middlesbrough beat off the competition with her very seasonal Autumn Leaves concept, gaining 5,199 votes, to win a cash prize, three rolls of her own design and 10 percent royalties on any rolls sold by Udesign.
Mid-Century Madness
November 10, 2010
I am beside myself with excitement, with a baby on the way I am moving from a poky one bedroom flat into a three bedroom farmhouse at the end of the month. Now, while this means a new addition to our family, more space and a garden, I admit one of the things I am most looking forward to is decking out the place with new furniture. Creating rooms with a 'look', not just crammed in possessions. And as a long time lover of the late 1950s, early 60s, with a more recently converted husband with a penchant for Don Draper's styling and office decor (thank you Mad Men!), in our case we might be going for old furniture, not new. Where better than to start looking, this weekend, than the Midcentury.Modern show at Dulwich College?

Plain Space: John Pawson at the Design Museum
November 4, 2010
Since the Sixties, the term minimalism has been applied to everything from the laconic prose style of American short story writer Raymond Carver to the pared-down sculpture and furniture of artist Donald Judd. But as I discovered when I interviewed the British minimalist architect John Pawson recently, minimalism is not as simple as it looks.
