Steely composure
Iconic European furniture manufacturer Thonet's latest two launches both make use of the companies famous bending technique, and this time both are in stainless steel but have quite different uses. The first is Thonet's first ever lighting product, entitled Lum.
Shear brilliance: wool makes a comeback at Fashion Week
October 22, 2010
Designers are always talking about how little time they had to complete their latest project, but you have to hand it to London-based design studio Not Tom who, after only two weeks preparation, had a mere three hours to set up this exhibition/party for Woolmark during London Fashion Week.
Turkish delights
October 21, 2010

I have never been to Istanbul, but last week I got a tiny and tasty snapshot of what it might be like at the launch of Top Floor's new rug collection, Ottomania. It is inspired by the company's founder and Turkish born and London-based designer Esti Barnes' trip back to the country in the summer and named after the rich influence of the Ottoman Empire.

Turning down 'green noise'
October 6, 2010
Sustainability sells. Green, apparently, is the new black, and companies, not least those involved in workplace design, are keen to stress their dedication to environmental sustainability. But how can we tell the difference between a genuine commitment to the environment and so called 'green noise' (a phrase used recently by the New York Times to describe empty environmental sloganeering)?
In an attempt to cut through the cliché and get to the heart of these issues, ergonomic workplace designer Colebrook Bosson Saunders is hosting a series of talks aimed at establishing exactly what is meant by phrases like 'the green workplace' and 'sustainable design'.
Battered but beautiful bolthole

Further travels in Shoreditch during London Design Week took me to JAMESPLUMB's One Room Hotel. I adore the sensibilities of the design duo, Hannah Plumb and James Russell, who salvage forgotten treasures and re-invent them as contemporary, elegant design pieces. So what would an entire suite designed by them look like? I visited the One Room Hotel to find out.
One Light Only in Shoreditch
idfx have been watching Lee Broom for a couple of years now and are big fans of the East Londoner's award winning products, so were excited to see his new collection of lights entitled One Light Only. And of course go along to what was sure to be a great party, at Electra House in Shoreditch.
Designers Unite!

Collaboration was the flavour of last week's London Design Festival, with one of the most unusual and successful being Ørgreen and Fritz Hansen's launch of the Skyline Edition of Arne Jacobsen Swan™ chair.
