Last night Clerkenwell had the buzz of Zona Tortona, with reams of big name designer showrooms throwing open their doors for London Design Festival. I went along to three major locations on the design map: the new collaborative space from Kohler and West One Bathrooms (above); the impressive showroom housing Cappellini, Poltrona Frau, Alias and Cassina; and must-see store Ellis and Louca.

Kohler and West One Bathrooms have teamed up for this new space named The Bold Look of Kohler, showcasing the brand's bathroom and kitchen ranges plus pieces from the company's other brands Daryl and Kallista. I spoke to Kohler's creative director Tristan Butterfield about the project, who had nothing but praise for the team that helped him create the space, including architect Harvey Langston-Jones who collaborated on the design. 'A successful project comes down to working with the right people, with those around you understanding where you're coming from. This project was all about collaborations, and we're really proud of the result. It really shows off the brand to its full potential,' he explained. Exploring the unusual layout reveals more than a few memorable pieces, from the latest range of decorative statement sinks (above) to the infinite bath with the tap in the ceiling (below)- a favourite at Trump Towers apparently.

The floor space at Cappellini's showroom is expansive with just cause, needing ample space to display its own collections as well as collections from Poltrona Frau, Alias and Cassina. Designed last year by Giulio Cappellini, the space is cleverly defined between the very different brands. A popular piece was the Archibald armchair designed by Jean-Marie Massaud for Poltrona Frau, a soft leather piece in the Mandarino colourway which drew lots of attention for its sophisticated design - and its obvious appeal to weary festival goers! Last but not least, Ellis and Louca's cosy space (above) was full to bursting last night, testament to its instant popularity in the industry. The elegantly refurbished former McQueens flower store has been transformed into a one-stop-shop for home products, with everything from furniture and lighting to soap, candles and wrapping paper. Being just round the corner from idfx HQ, I will certainly be going back, and my credit card is sure to be involved...
