The V&A will put a new spin on the term 'summer camp' this July with its inaugural two-day celebration of design. The V&A Summer Camp evolved from the V&A Village Fete and promises free workshops, performances and participatory events from the UK's top designers.

In true summer camp fashion, tents will dot the camp to share design knowledge and skills. These creative hubs aim to satisfy a variety of interests, for example, Peter Marigold and Markus Bergstrom will offer advice on how to devise and create furniture like the Marigold-designed pieces pictured above. In another tent, designer Tony Hayward will teach visitors how to make a take-away toy. And for those interested in sustainable socializing, Bombay Sapphire London Dry Gin will be serving up summer cocktails in environmentally conscious cardboard martini glasses created by Giles Miller.

Though this may sound a bit different than a childhood getaway, the V&A hasn't forgotten the main hallmark of summer camp: a campfire. The site will have a 'communal campfire' tent with live music, late bars and food and a nocturnal collaboration with the Serpentine Gallery (advanced booking required).
