We have every right to be proud of our design industry in the UK, but we could learn a lot from Italy when it comes to the relationship between design and manufacturing. That's one of the subjects of a series of talks called Made in Italy: the Influence of Italian Design, which began this week at the Design Museum in London.
Featuring London-born furniture designer James Irvine, who has spent most of his career in Milan, architect and designer Piero Lissoni and Italian-born, London-based architect Claudio Silvestrin, the first of seven talks, called Il Mondo Italiano, looked at how the design industry in Italy works from the point of view of manufacturer, designer and consumer, and the idiosyncratic relationship between all three.
The focus of the next talk, which takes place on Monday 10 May at the Design Museum in London, will be 'the nuances of the Italian industrial design scene analysed by experienced designers working across a range of disciplines, including Mario Bellini and Dr Penny Sparke'.
The event is sponsored by Peroni Nastro Azzurro.
