There¹s nothing like trying something for yourself to make you appreciate the art and skill of a particular craft. I tried glassblowing for the first time recently and now am the proud owner of a beautiful (well, I think it is!) glass vase which sits, full of daffodils, on my desk as I write. Slightly uneven at the top (I declined an offer to straighten it out) and more yellow than the green I was hoping for, it is still quite surprising to think I had a hand in creating it.

I didn¹t think it would be easy but it was fascinating to watch how the professionals achieved so effortlessly what I could only make a fumbling first attempt at. Glassblowers (and teachers) Adam (Aaronson) and Eddie were a slick double act at Adam¹s studio near Earl¹s Court which is also next door to the Zest Gallery. Adam¹s work can be found in any number of smart homes thanks to his work for Porta Romana lighting - he makes their distinctive glass bases as well as a range of door furniture and other pieces of glass art which are coveted by collectors. Regular courses there mean you can try glassblowing too go on, give it a blow! www.zestgallery.com
