Nominees for this year's Restaurant & Bar Design Awards have been announced. The awards are independent and now in its second year, and winners are chosen by panel of top international journalists from the design, hospitality and lifestyle sectors. Their job is to recognise and reward both 'restaurants and bars' and their 'designers' for design excellence. Here are shots of the finalists in the Independent Restaurant category.

Tom's Kitchen is a restaurant that serves fresh, British (and whenever possible, seasonal) produce. This interior scheme was designed by BGW Design Studio

CAFE FISH.jpg

Edinburgh's Cape Fish restaurant was designed by Lee Boyd. It's a 56 cover restaurant and wine bar in the heart of Leith, Edinburgh's restaurant district and offers locally caught fish and seafood.

VIET HOA.jpgLondon's Viet Hoa is located in trendy Shoreditch and was designed by branding studio VONSUNG. It was established ten years ago, and is one of the most famous - and best loved - restaurants in the area.

AT THE CHAPEL.jpgAt The Chapel is a cosy bakery, wine shop, café, bar and restaurant housed in a 17th-century coaching inn in Bruton High Street, Somerset. The designer of this project was Mackenzie Wheeler

GALVIN LA CHAPELLE.jpgGalvin La Chapelle is a Galvin Brothers restaurant set in a conversion of St. Botolph's Hall in Spital Square, London. It offers a range of dining options and bar and was designed by chartered architects Designlsm.

BOUNDARY.jpgBoundary is a new project in Shoreditch which opened in January 2009. It's situated in a converted Victorian warehouse, and includes 3 restaurants and bars, 12 guest bedrooms, 5 suites, a bakery and a food store. It's a joint venture between Terence and Vicki Conran, in partnership with Peter Prescott and was designed by Conran and Partners.

So who is your favourite finalist? I like the look of Viet Hoa the best.
