Mixing old with new: I'm floored
March 10, 2010
For the renovation of the assembly hall at Lucas-Cranach-Gymnasium grammar school in Wittenberg, Germany last year, the design was kept modern with a twist of tradition.
The rubber flooring, by Nora, across the 300sqm area consists of 1,912 individual elements, cut to size in three different dimensions and seven colours. These have been combined to create the design, based on the coat of arms of the Lucas Cranach family. He's the namesake of the school, and an important painter and graphic artist of the German, and the "winged snake" is a signet on many of his works.
It sure beats the bleachers of my alma mater.
