Country Roads: DC Design House 2010

Last weekend was the bare bones tour of the third annual DC Design House. Historic Chevy Chase Estate will undergo a complete renovation with interiors by some 20 top designers in the area. In April, the finished transformation will be open for public tours with ticket proceeds going to the Children's Hospital Foundation of the Children's National Medical Center.

This year's Design House is a 10,000sqf, Georgian-style country house originally built in 1905. In 1910, architect Clark Waggaman expanded the original home by adding two wings and its brick façade. Boasting nine bedrooms, 10 bathrooms and immaculate lawns, the property has made its name in Washington circles since the late 1940s, even hosting President Truman's inauguration party.

I'm pretty excited to see the results for this year's house--especially the idea of using a country estate rather than the last two years' more urban mansions. Approximately 20 spaces are being designed, including an artist's studio, girl's bedroom, boy's bedroom, mater dressing room, library and sun room amongst other standard rooms.

Check out the list of 20 or so designers and their vendors. And mark April 10 to May 9 on you calendar if you want to tour the finished project. Can't make it? We'll be updating the blog with design details next month.
