At the Design Museum, the Brit Insurance Designs of the Year prize exhibition continues to draw in the crowds. The winners of each category were announced on Thursday night, who will now compete to become the overall winner. Among the inspiring selection of this year's best ideas is a great selection of newly iconic furniture, and I've chosen a few of my favourites.

The intelligent Grassworks collection by Jair Straschnow won the Best Furniture prize for his use of bamboo laminate, showing how it is possible to make beautiful and completely sustainable furniture. Opposite Straschnow's work is the impressive Extrusions bench from Thomas Heatherwick studio, which has to be seen up close to admire the industrial detail of the tricky manufacturing process. Floating proudly is the sculptural 'Clouds' textile system by the Bouroullec brothers for Kvadrat, a modular curtain/room divide that is shaped by the user. But not to be missed is the clever simplicity of the Hannah wardrobe from Peter Marigold's 'Palindrome' series. One side shows a detailed inverse mirror image of its opposing side, as the half-mould and half-cast piece is formed from both sides of the same mould.
