April Focus: Stone and Ceramics
March 18, 2010

By Carrie Milford, idfx
April is fast approaching, and with it idfx's Stone and Ceramics Focus. We've been in contact with interior designers over the past month and are really excited about the projects we have encountered! Ceramics and stones are being revived in innovative and beautiful ways for modern design. Check out the April issue for the final pick of our absolute favourites, but here are a few of the projects that have recently caught our attention.
Unifamiliar

Unifamiliar, a residential project in Moaña. Vigo, Spain, was designed
by Christina Cordeiro. While ceramic floors and walls in the bathroom
might seem ordinary, Cordeiro took the idea of ceramic surfaces to a
whole new level.
The bathroom features bright red tiles and sleek white surfaces while the living room incorporates a more
natural ceramic on the floor and one wall.
The Chelsea Tile Company Showroom
The Chelsea Tile Company has created a chic showroom that incorporates
its products into a home setting. Everything in the showroom is tiled,
from the walls to the floors and even the worktops and tables, which
feature glass tiles in beautiful mosaics.
Every ceramic and stone
feature you have ever wanted and ones you have never thought to dream
of are all at home in The Chelsea Tile Company showroom.

The David Tang Project
After Sir David Tang spotted Dominic Crinson's tile work in the
Boundary Hotel in London he decided he had to approach him to create a
mural for three penthouse suites he was designing in Beijing.
The
penthouse suites, which overlook the new Olympic stadium, feature
murals generated from Dominic's own photography. The photos are
composed digitally to create a montage of Beijing's cityscape (the title image of this piece). Past
Dominic Crinson murals were designed the same way and include
Londonscape and Newyorkscape.
