ACID goes to Number 10
March 31, 2010

By Jenny Brewer, idfx
Copying in design is a real issue experienced far too often by many smaller businesses and independent designers, one that ACID (Anti-Copying in Design) deals with on a regular basis. It can be hugely detrimental to revenue and credibility, not to mention the emotional ordeal of fighting to protect the hard work that has been invested in an idea. Dids Macdonald, founder of ACID, has been instrumental in the ongoing battle for designers' rights, and her petitions to the government show yet more dedication to the cause.

The first petition asks the Prime Minister to make improvements to the copyright and unregistered design right infringement damages regime, aiming to create a greater deterrent against intellectual property theft. The second presses Number 10 to create a law that introduces criminal sanctions for design right infringement. The deadline to sign the petitions is the 21st April, so if you feel like supporting the cause, go to http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/IPDamages/ or http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/DesignRight/ for more details and to sign the petition.

I like the style you took with this subject. It isn't every day that you simply find something so concise and enlightening.
