Homebase have brightened up Carlisle train station while making a new TV ad for the retailer. The station's bridge was painted in a range of stripes, one platform was covered with purple wallpaper and there were lampshades hanging from the ceiling.

The idea behind the makeover was to inspire and encourage people to transform their own homes and gardens, by showing them that everyday spaces anywhere can be made into a home.

Furniture from the store's home improvement chain, such as sofas, lamps and kitchen units were also placed around the drab station.

The advert is said to centre on the owner of a station café, with filming taking place during the day and night. The concept is now going to be rolled out on smaller scales around the country.

The activity in Carlisle is the first of these and has already created a lot of buzz and interest in the local area. Residents in Carlisle have even set up a facebook group to keep the station in its transformed state.
