Cinimod Studio's butterflies
February 3, 2010
I've never been too fond of butterflies outside of an idyllic countryside afternoon, and I'll probably blame this on Mariah Carey. However, seeing recent work by Cinimod Studio has banished all tacky memories of pink glitter and late '90s teenage bedroom décor.
'Flutter' (pictured above) is a new interactive artwork brining viewers a digital encounter with a flutter of virtual butterflies. Its a product of what the studio calls "our on-going fascination with the motion of a butterfly's flight and the iridescent reflections and scattering of light by the scales on a butterfly's wing."
It will be unveiled at the Kinetica Art Fair opening tomorrow, Thursday, February 4.
A second project, which London readers may have already seen, is the "Butterfly In Flight" features in Itsu shops and restaurants. These were a direct commission by Julian Metcalfe, founder of Pret A Manger and Itsu, and they're definitely worth a stop in.
