2010 Travel and Leisure Design Awards
February 23, 2010
London based design group Priestmangoode, has won two awards at the 2010 Travel and Leisure Design Awards. Their two big entries in the competition included Motel 6, a roadside motel transformed into a stylish economy hotel chain, and First Class airline suite, top in-flight comfort and privacy in a calm and luxurious space.
Each design highlights Priestmangoode's skill at designing quality and comfort in small spaces. Motel 6 has efficient use of space with clever design solutions. With an emphasis on maximising space, the rooms feature flat screen TVs built into a wall unit that includes a laptop and iPod dock, as well as storage for clothes and luggage, a sofa area and a modern bathroom suite with walk in shower.
The First Class airline suite combines the Swiss qualities of understated design, craftsmanship and attention to detail. Dividing the cabin into clear sections, each seat has its own large-screen TV, foldaway desk, and lie-flat bed concealed behind elegant sliding oak panels.
Paul Priestman said: "Both designs demonstrate what clever design thinking can do. For Motel 6 we were able to add value, comfort and style without compromising the brand's values or pushing up the price whilst for Swiss we created something simple and in keeping the companies brand but with the level of quality and luxury you would expect from a first class cabin."
