The newly renovated Bank of America Tower in San Diego has received the highly celebrated TOBY, The Office Building of the Year award. The Bank of America Tower, located at 450 B Street received the award under the 'renovated building' category in late December 2009.

Ware Malcomb's renovation of the building included a complete revamp of the main entrance and corridors. They related to the buildings core purpose, trying to gain foot-fall, and used neutral colours throughout, with feature patterned walls to create interest. The ceiling height of entrances was increased to create openness and the introduction of glass walls was used for the illusion of space. The new contemporary design removed the hideous, red, hexagonal-reception and used fixtures that would take advantage of space and light. A grand total of 14,916 square feet of interior was renovated. building.jpg

The exterior also had a makeover, playing on its Californian location, it used simple designs maintaining the buildings overall aesthetics, improving the tower's entrance, landscape, lighting, building identity and way finding.

The TOBY awards are in conjunction with BOMA's, Building Owner's Management Association, San Diego Chapter, whom bestows the award to several categories of building distinction. Other notable categories include the top government, corporate and medical building.
