"In Japan the relationship between the object and the environment is more important then the object itself." A perfect statement to introduce you into the experience of Design Real, an exhibition that challenges your belief on everyday objects.

The 'Pulp Chair' (above) is an interesting piece, a chair made entirely from paper; there is an abundance of information provided. It details the sustainability of the chair, its core purpose, and other paper products. Everything possible about the conception of this chair is provided.

Another interesting object entitled simply 'Lamp' is a design called Yang by Artemide. Facts scroll on the screens about the creation of this item and how each colour of the light was specifically selected. Scientists have deduced that specific coloured lights can elicit different behaviours. Remember to bare in mind these colours next time you redesign your house.

The whole experience is extremely enlightening and certainly makes you think. The information provided is slightly overwhelming, but even if you do not consider every objects creation, the exhibition definitely gives you a thirst for knowledge.

The exhibition is at the Serpentine Gallery until the 7 February.
