The Geffrye Museum is one of London's hidden gems. The museum is set in elegant 18th century almshouses with a contemporary wing surrounded by attractive gardens, which include an award-winning walled herb garden and a series of period gardens. The museum showcases tradition of the homes, and features many gorgeous antique pieces and rarities.

From feasting, dancing and kissing under the mistletoe to playing parlour games, decorating the tree and throwing cocktail parties, Christmas Past illustrates how Christmas has been celebrated in English middle-class homes from 1600 to the present day with an enthralling vivacity.

Proving that Christmas doesn't need to be costly and commercial, and to complement the museum's special Eco Home exhibition, this year's programme of related events will embrace 'make do and mend' and all things home-made. More details can be found at www.geffrye-museum.org.uk
