Designer Adrien Jousset of ASK Yacht Design and naval architect Sylvain Julien of BMT Nigel Gee, have reached the finals of the Young Designer of the Year 2009 at the World Superyacht Awards.
Their design, Ostria, is one of five finalists chosen by the judging panel, which is chaired by Trevor Blakeley, chief executive of organisers The Royal Institution of Naval Architects. The overall winner will be announced later this month at an awards ceremony in London.
The competition’s focus on lowering the environmental impact of Superyachts posed problems, as many customers refuse to compromise on style or speed.
However, installing a diesel electric propulsion plant provided the flexibility to take advantage of secondary, renewable, carbon free means of energy production. Ostria is also equipped with 370sq metres of solar panels and a four metre tall retractable wind turbine to reduce fuel consumption, cutting carbon emissions by around 800tonnes per year.
So it’s green and, as these pictures show, it looks pretty impressive too.
