Penson Architects have performed a radical transformation, thanks to an imaginative and striking design, on Wilts & Dorset Poole Bus Station

The gigantic mural, lighting and general refurbishments have updated the 40 year old building which contains a shopping centre with an outdoor covered walkway, the entrance to shops and bus departure points. The mural depicts views of various local activities which are taking place above the bus stations canopy, as if the canopy were a large section of glass.

Developed in house by Penson, the mural provides a welcome sight for bus passengers and passersby as you move around beneath the mural with its different shapes, textures and patterns emerging and forming large elements.

The mood of the location has changed with the additional day lighting improving the feeling of security and at night the dramatic lighting physically improves behaviors.

The project faced the problem of developing a solution that created the necessary impact with adhering to a minimal and strict budget of £300,000 and a timetable of just seven weeks, but has met with delight and admiration all round.
