Design duo Laurent Nurisso and Christopher Curtis have opened another Lifestyle Bazaar showroom on the Kingsland Road, second to the Newburgh location, just next to Carnaby Street. Lifestyle Bazaar is a great little retail outlet for contemporary design, from the big names to exciting up and coming talent, selected carefully from all around the world by Nurisso and Curtis.
Right in the heart of Shoreditch, this store has been given more of a ‘gritty’ edge than the Soho shop, with chipboard floors, a blackboard wall, exposed brick and original fireplaces on show. Being located in a former Wellington boot factory it has that classic warehouse feel many of the shops around Hoxton Square share, something that Nurisso and Curtis were keen to keep.
On the ground floor there were large cage-like lights by La Corbeille and Kartell chairs such as Mr. Impossible and Frilly. There was also a striking steel screen by Pulpo with cut out skull and dice motifs, very Shoreditch.
I was very happy to see one of my favourite design company’s products on show- iBride, a quirky French design team who make surreal legged tables (called Bambi!), a product I haven’t seen displayed anywhere other than at the Maison et Objet shows.
Going down to the basement, it was a different atmosphere brightly lit by many lights, some were more products from Pulpo and Kartell. Here the exposed brick was covered in wallpaper and mirrors, such as the Murano by iBride.
