And the winner is....

IMG_9484.jpg

Successful careers in this industry often (some would say too often) depend on lucky breaks, and if my experience last Monday is anything to go by it looks like Germany’s Roland Kreiter is in for a wonderful ride. He is the winner of the Philippe Starck & MGX Pure Creativity competition, set up by Mydeco.com.

The light fantastic

Walking around Euroluce this week has been both a flashy and futuristic experience. I always love the lighting show in Milan - the dark hangars make a suitably dramatic backdrop for the products, sometimes dazzling, sometimes subtle and ethereal.

The FX editor blogs on HOK

In our industry there's much talk of despondency, with redundancies, budgets being slashed and over-demanding clients, but I read something today that stopped me in my tracks. And it was in such an uplifting, positive way that I thought I¹d pass it on.

HOK is putting in to practice what our design industry has been preaching for some years. It has asked all 2,100 of its staff in 24 offices worldwide, to make real efforts to make a difference in one day, this Wednesday, 22 April, to reduce waste. In whatever way they can.

Wallpapers by Artists is contemporary art on a 53cm x 10m roll of wallpaper. Production of each roll is strictly limited, and is printed and prepared in a traditional workshop. Not only does it mean you can have a contemporary art backdrop in your home, it also allows artists to hang their art from their art.

13 ft long Chesterfield Sofa

Chesterfield.jpg

I'm a big fan of 'having a rest' (no, it's not a code for being lazy) but being tall means that the average sofa usually isn't long enough for a nice lie-down. This custom made 13 ft long Chesterfield would certainly accomodate me, but sadly it is not for sale. However, it can be rented for special events from Great Hire at a rate of £500/24hours and is available in six colours.
