There was a jubilant mood at product designer Colebrook Bosson Saunders' London Bridge HQ this Saint George’s Day.
The company won a prestigious Red Dot Design Award for its innovative product Rodney, an arm for supporting flat screen monitors made of powder-coated mild steel and injection-moulded nylon plastic. And, convivial as ever, CBS chose not to celebrate alone and invited the other UK winners along for a press conference and party on what turned out to be a beautiful, sunny evening.
I was pleasantly surprised at how well British companies did at this year’s Red Dot awards, with eight gongs going to British companies or individual designers.
Other winners included Andrew Actman for his amazing Reykjavik Eyes – glasses whose frames are made from a single, feather-light piece of titanium with no screws or joints, and furniture designer Dura for its Integrated Work System of steel modular furniture.
Among the largest and most renowned design competitions in the world, the annual Red Dot Design Awards attracts entries from all over the world and recognises work of outstanding innovation, functionality and formal quality.
The winning designs will be on show at the Red Dot Design Museum in Germany.
