On 28th January 2009, fellow WIDN scribe Nicole and I attended what I was simply referring to as 'a tap launch'. I was put in charge of directions to the venue - 46 Portland Place, London - but like a fool I forgot the map and decided to trust my instincts. Needless to say, soon we were using Google on our phones - and a husband at a PC somewhere - to find out where we should be.

To be honest, I had given up hope. And besides, it was "just a tap launch". However, Nicole persevered and soon we were outside a grand white building just round the corner from Oxford Street, and it was at this moment I recognized that tonight was an awful lot more than "just a tap launch".

Inside, a mix of people from the design and fashion worlds sipped freshly made cocktails and feasted upon delicious vegetarian vol-au-vents from Saf Restaurant. The building itself was fabulous, one can only imagine how impressive it would have been when a private residence in the nineteenth century.

But of course, we weren't just there to hob nob with the trendy elite, we were there to gaze longingly at a futuristic tap...

Inspired by the movement of water, the designs are a formal expression of the continuous flow of liquid – merging tap spout, body and handle in a seamless trajectory of curvilinear geometries.

Featuring Triflow’s exclusive, patented three-way technology, the filtered drinking water is delivered through a dedicated waterway thereby isolating it from the hot and cold water streams - controlled by the tap’s discreet handle. Whilst a touch-sensitive electronic button activates the filtered water.

Concealed behind the fluid Zaha Hadid design is a highly sophisticated manufacturing process that is unique to the UK and has never before been used in the creation of a tap. The result is a tap that is as much a bespoke work of art as it is a kitchen or bathroom appliance.

Beautiful, isn't it?
