Stanislav Katz - Console Book Shelf

During these cold winter nights and the February freeze I like nothing more than to curl up in front of a fire with a good book. OK, more often than not a good newspaper supplement, and preferably a tasty glass of Shiraz too, but you get the picture.

I have always dreamed of having a library. I’d have one of those green leather wing backed chairs and a banker’s lamp with maybe a coat of arms hanging on the wall and a revolving globe drinks cabinet. Think Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra’s library/bar in High Society and you will picture my heaven.

It is but a dream though and for us everyday folks the best we can do is create a small corner of peace for our escape into literature (or The Observer Music Monthly). I think I have found the piece to make this little dream come true.

Stanislav Katz’s Console Book Shelf combines practical design with a fantastically unique and modern concept.

The combination of recliner and bookshelf is so obvious it makes me kick myself for not thinking of it first. Once relaxed into this curvaceous construction, all your reading material (or even the TV remote if you prefer) is within hand’s reach in the two sets of shelves that frame the piece like contemporary, all purpose bookends.

The color makes the piece bold enough to become a talking piece but easy enough to fit in with most modern décor. It is a very individual and personal construct, something I would feel real ownership of, like having your place on the sofa or a much love chair. Instead of just a place to sit though, it is a place to keep your favorite pages and present them stylishly to the world.

I must say the mannequin looks dead comfy too, don’t you think?

Uhmm, I wouldn't want to have my back and neck twisted to acrobatic positions all for a fav read. I rather prefer my dumpy bed thank you. Would kill for a Joey-Chandler Friend's kickback recliner though :-)

Now THAT is what furniture design is all about! And, yes, I'm also kicking myself for not having thought of it first :)
