This year, the Affordable Art Fair celebrates its 10th anniversary with a special 10th Anniversary Garden, designed by landscape design practice Green Graphite. The design sees a vertical landscape of living walls planted with herbs, ferns and flowers, surrounded by lush lawn and amazing furniture designed in my favourite material, yes, you've guessed it - Corian!
“Spinning Seats” is an inventive stainless steel seating platform composed of eight sections, each of which spins 360 degrees around a central post. Each seat is shaped like a seed pod and can either come together to rest in a vertical line one above the other or can be placed at any degree along the circumference. This results not only in aesthetic intrigue, but also in a practical and sociable piece of furniture which can be adapted as desired. From public spaces to family gardens the piece offers both originality and impact. Designer Noel Blakeman was inspired to clad his visionary design in Corian after seeing the material used for a lighting installation at last year's 100% Design.
Whilst many people associate the material with kitchens, it is infact ideal for outdoor applications such as landscape design because it’s easily cleaned, UV stable and weather resistant.
The event is the country's leading showcase for contemporary art for sale under £3,000. 120 galleries from around the world exhibit paintings, original prints, photography and sculpture, and the fair is attended by over 20,000 visitors. Takes place 22-25 October, Battersea Park, London.
