Simon Austen, 'Lounger 1', Birch Ply.jpg

Birch ply ‘Lounger 1’ by Simon Austen (above) will be one of many original designs and products on exhibition at the Thirlestaine Long Gallery in Cheltenham College for Celebration of Craftsmanship & Design.

Coming up in just two weeks, this is an annual showcase of contemporary designer- and craftsman-made furniture and decorative arts. Featuring 75 exhibitors with a selection of new and original designs and products, these are three pieces that caught my eye.

Jason Heap’s ‘Infinity + 1’

The base for this table brings back fond memories of childhood Spirograph sets. It’s done in American black walnut with green edge detail.

Rolfe’s set of drawers in birch ply gives new meaning to the concept of rock hard abs.

Most work on show will be for sale. The prices asked will be the makers’ own—there will be no commission added.
